Choosing A Party Theme
A party theme is a unifying concept that flows through the party. It
links the food and drink, the invitations, the décor, and all the
creative parts of the party together. A theme should be consistent
with the personality of the host, guest of honor, as well as the
objective of the party.
Some event themes will tend to be basic: a sweet sixteen or your
grandparent’s 50th anniversary. Even though the theme may be obvious
you can still put a creative new twist on them without over doing
it.
When getting ideas, try working around a décor item or a certain
color. You may be able to center your theme around your guest of
honor’s personality. You can take different aspects of your guest’s
personality and use those to create your menu choices,
entertainment, and décor or photos.
A theme can be a popular TV show, book or movie. It can be a
specific food, a country, culture, or certain pop icons.
Here are just some popular classics:
• Casino night
• Decade party (50s to the 80s)
• Hawaiian party
• Karaoke party
• Wine tasting party
• Sporting event party
• Mardi Gras party
• Holiday or seasonal event
• Oscar party
• Spa/pampering party
Remember you can always take traditional themes add your own twist!
You can even combine more than one theme but you don’t want to over
do it. You can take a couple elements from each theme and work with
them in the event.
